Hi all! Who are your favorite Count Basie drummers?
Well, Papa Jo and Sonny Payne, and Butch Miles are my faves. I have seen them all in action. I did not see Speedy, except on YouTube. While Speedy Jones was faster than fast, I don't think he added much to the band--his work was seemed mostly showboating. Duffy Jackson was a good working drummer and had some good licks; I've seen him with the Frank Foster edition of the Basie Band. I'm trying to figure out who "Al Jones" was at the 1961 Basie Carnegie Hall concert. He does not even look like any of the other Joneses and I'm wondering who he is, or if the producers got his name wrong.

Hi all! Who are your favorite Count Basie drummers?
If you can still get a chance to see the great Tony Bennet, he will introduce his drummmer, as......Count Basie's favorite drummer, Harold Jones! Why don't we leave it at the master Basie's words as the who was the best.
